Evaluation of the film, Meet the Parents as an English teaching/learning material

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to display the effectiveness of the film, Meet the Parents, as a tool to teach English for female college EFL students. This paper discusses the techniques of using video materials in EFL classes for motivational, linguistic, and cultural/educational purposes. Participants for this study were thirty six female college EFL students who registered for a course titled "Screen English". Once enrolled, students were asked to study the film Meet the Parents. Upon completion, the subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire. The purpose of this questinnaire was to probe the amount of language and cultural knowledge learned from the film. The collected data was analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively and summarized into this study. This study further researches the effectiveness of using the film, Meet the Parents for educational purposes, and can be used as a reference for selecting prospective materials for similar courses as "Screen English" and designing related syllabuses for future courses.
