Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to develop an English class plan for English underachievers in Korean elementary schools through flipped learning. This study first seeks to outline the characteristics of English underachievers in accordance with the findings of previous studies. Current practices and teaching methods for English underachievers in Korean elementary schools were then examined to find weaknesses in the existing classroom model. In the next step, a teaching and learning method, flipped learning, was introduced as an English class plan. Finally, an English class model using flipped learning was provided with the goal of improving English ability for underachievers in elementary schools. Four steps of English class procedures in the class model were introduced: the pre-class, the in-class, the post-class, and the daily life time class. The in-class procedure was divided into three stages that include the opening, middle, and closing stages. In each stage, the contents of class activities and interactions between teacher-student and student-student were presented as class modules. It was found that in order for a successful application of flipped learning into elementary school classrooms for English underachievers to be instituted, there should be constant interaction between teachers and students. |
