The purpose of this study is to provide a development plan for an English practice system through voice recognition robot technology based on artificial intelligence.
This study investigates recent trends in voice recognition user interfaces by global ICT companies and reviews recently published English learning programs. The findings reveal that there are few English conversation programs consisting of direct interaction between talking robots and human learners through voice recognition systems. Thus, this study proposes a development plan consisting of three types of system design patterns for English conversation learning through the application of a talking robot based on a voice recognition system utilizing newly developed voice recognition technology. The three design patterns proposed in this study are as follows: 1) a system directed program made up of a placement test, dialog practice, evaluation, and feedback processes, 2) a learner directed program consisting of six components including a diagnostic test, selection of theme and situation, the use of a conversation based on a scenario, the progress of a free conversation, and the application of a helper to provide feedback, and 3) a platform application composing an internet search engine, free conversation, and the application of a helper to provide feedback. |
