Abstract
Although e-textbook for English classes has been developed since 2012 in Korea, it is not being used in many English classes at secondary school level. The purposes of this study are to examine middle school students’ awareness, interest, and experience of using e-textbook for learning English listening and to investigate their perspectives on English listening class using e-textbook and listening activities. The subjects of this study were 208 second graders in a middle school in Gyeonggi Province. A questionnaire and interviews were used to collect the pertinent data. Quantitative data from the questionnaire were analyzed for descriptive and inferential statistics, and qualitative data were descriptively analyzed. The results are as follows. First, most students were not aware of the use of e-textbook for English listening. The majority of students did not have experiences of using e-textbook for learning English listening. Second, the students were found to be satisfied with the use of e-textbook for learning English listening and willing to use e-textbook for further English study in the future. Last, the students considered the e-textbook listening activities useful, interesting, motivating, satisfying, and effective. Based on the main findings, pedagogical implications for the implementation of e-textbook are suggested.
