An Understanding and Critics on Krashen

Krashen에 대한 이해와 비판
김윤경
Abstract
Krashen's theories on language acquisition as they have been outlined in carious articles and in his book with Tracy D. Terrll The Natural Approach (1983) have been inserted in English language instruction curricula in several countries, including Korea without benefit of scrutiny as to their adaptability or even validity, reliability or efficacy. This article stressed a need to apprise Krashen's theories and their use in Korea in these terms. To accomplish this, the author provides a review of the literature critical of Krashen's theories and suggests that their applicability and use in Korea be scrutinized. As well, the author suggests that many teaching methods which have appeared in the scene to replace the grammar translation method been examined with an eye to validity and efficacy. This article also examines the natural approach as presented by Terrill and Krashen and Krashen's theoretical stance as it is outlined in his works and finds.
