Abstract
The aim of this study is to show the effect of studying English through movies, especially focusing on cultural aspect. This research was divided into four stages. In the first stage, the students were given questionnaire that has eight questions about study interest, study attitude, the degree of study motivation, and the level of understanding culture. In the second stage, the students were taught by using paper textbook only, regardless of the cultural context. In the third stage, the students were taught the culture by using movie. After all experiments had been done, the students were given the same questionnaire as before. At the last stage, the result of the earlier tests were compared with the later one. The result of research showed that: First, the students could understand why they should study English. The students thought about the need of English language more directly through culture class than when they focused on ordinary language class; second, most students' interest of studying English has increased; and third, the result suggested that the teaching method using the cultural aspect through movies narrowed the gap in students' English comprehensive ability. As a result, the class with culture aspect is the good way in teaching a language.
