Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop learning modules for elementary English writing class through text-chat in internet messenger. Three different learning modules for English writing practice through text-chat in internet messenger were developed according to student English proficiency levels. For the beginning level, a controlled-writing format was used and for the intermediate and the advanced levels, guided-writing and free-writing formats were used. Three different ways of operating elementary English writing class using text-chat programs in internet messenger were also introduced. According to the level of learning modules, different writing activities can be provided to lead the text-chat. For the first level, writing activities such as sentence copying, word substitution, and sentence completion through rearrangement of words, can be provided. For the second level, writing activities such as dictation, sentence completion, and writing sentences using useful expressions may be applied. Finally, free writing using model sentences and useful expressions as a writing activity is recommended for the third level. These learning modules will provide students with more opportunities to practice English writing through the internet text-chat program.
