Abstract
Students in the era of media convergence are different from students in previous times. Considered digital natives or members of Generation Z, contemporary students use internet-based technologies effortlessly and are willing to acquire and apply new knowledge in and across an array of media. In this context, simply investing in old educational methods will not produce satisfactory outcomes. This new generation of students requires a new approach in the classroom, and the transmedia approach should serve as a breakthrough. The term transmedia refers to the process of combining multiple media platforms to create a media universe whose parts exist collectively and separately at the same time. The Harry Potter series is a notable example. Starting as a series of young adult novels, the Harry Potter universe eventually expanded to include a wide variety of media—from movies and games to fanfiction and fan blogs. This study used the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and its film adaptation. The teacher implemented activities designed to help students enjoy and become immersed in Harry Potter. The students’ presentations showcased their abilities to use multiple media fluidly to discuss their favorite Harry Potter-related topics. This paper discusses the details of the study’s procedures and results .
