Abstract
This study will analyse the theories and applications of CALL from an interdisciplinary perspective. Theories can be valuable only if they are used in the context of their applications. The combination of sound theory and technology can develop ICALL software. ICALL can be developed from an interdisciplinary perspective: Artificial Intelligence, Expert Systems, Linguistics, Language Education, Instructional Design, and Cognitive Science. Language education theories stem from SLA theories. This paper is organized as follows. Firstly, I will review the SLA theories and their applications to CALL in from an interdisciplinary perspective. Secondly, I will analyse the typologies and erminology in CALL. Thirdly, I will focus on Kemmis' typology of CALL and its applications. Fourthly, I will relate these theories to ICALL and Expert Systems. Finally, I will demonstrate the interesting factors in applying theory to applications and the possibilities for improvement.
